Race Description:

The LA ROUTA Adventure Race is an iconic event in Eastern Visayas, Philippines, recognized for its significant contribution to the development and growth of the local adventure racing scene. The race was held annually from 2000 to 2010, followed by a revival in 2019, and then hosted the first ARWS Asian Championship leg in 2023. These milestones have established LA ROUTA as the longest-running adventure race in the Philippines. The race attracts teams from across Eastern Visayas and neighboring regions, showcasing the spirit and endurance of its participants.

The LA ROUTA Adventure Race is a multi-day expedition type adventure race where mixed-gender teams of four navigate a series of sequential control points by trekking, biking, paddling, and swimming. Teams rely on a compass and a GIS-generated map with a non-standard, user-specified map scale to find their way. The race follows a linear course that requires technical navigational skills, and participants must plot the control points on their maps based on a set of clues provided just before the start of the race.

In the LA ROUTA, the participants do not get to choose their racing category, instead, the race determines it for them. There are three categories in the race, each with progressively shorter routes. Elite, Candidates and Aspirants. All teams start together in the open category, and their classification into specific categories is determined by their ranking at designated control points or cut-off times. The first cut-off establishes the Elite category, The second cut-off determines the Candidates Category, and the remaining teams fall into the Aspirants Category. Only the teams in the Elite category will complete the full course.

The LA ROUTA was conceived by Mr. Jason Garrido, the race director and event organizer of both CARRERA HABAGAT and the LA ROUTA Adventure Race Series. CARRERA HABAGAT, the first four-day non-stop adventure race in the country, was held annually from 2000-2010, and held in various locations in the Philippines.
