Malacara Race Welcomes the ARWS South America Championship to Santa Catarina

The best adventure racing teams in South America are preparing for 250km of Adventure at the Malacara Race in Brazil.

This has been a great year of ARWS adventure racing in South America, and to crown it we just need to know who will be the South American champions for 2023.

With 5 regional rounds in Argentina, Paraguay, Ecuador, Uruguay and Chile, the calendar has classified the best on the continent to face each other this December 8 to 10th in Orleans, Santa Catarina.

There the organizing team led by experienced race director Benito Brocca awaits the athletes, who will race a 250kms course near the Sierra Do Río Do Rastro.

Without a doubt, the MALACARA team is established as one the most respected in Brazil and has proven to be one of the most professional organizations on the continent. And the athletes have responded!

There will be 80 athletes in 20 teams in the ARWS category, coming from 6 countries, and the race will also have a competitive pairs category. It will also host the Copa Brazil 2023.

Brazil Multisport La Gesta

The race favourite is Team Brazil Multisport, captained by Camila Nicolau, who will arrive as South American Champions, undefeated in 2 ARWS championship finals and recently placed 4th in the World Championships in South Africa. And here, they are one of the local teams on home territory!

They will be racing against the strongest teams from Brazil such as Black Mamba, Lagartixa and BOA who were recently crowned Brazilian CBCA champions. They were also the winners of the pairs category at this year’s Malacara expedition race and will be tough to beat.

The qualifiers from the regional rounds this year will also be hunting for the title. San Juan Aventura is racing with a new line up of experienced athletes from Brazil and Argentina and after a great race in the World Championship they will be strong challengers.

From Paraguay, the ANGIRU team, captained by Saul Jara, continues its constant development as a team and they are growing stronger every race. From Ecuador come Los Chispitas, who won the Huairasinchi Aventura, leading the whole way, and the races in Argentina and Uruguay will be represented by Alquimistas AC, led by the experienced Martín Acevedo.

Twenty teams in the ARWS category is a continental record for the championship and shows that South America continues to develop its depth and talent in adventure racing through the ARWS.
