From the sand dunes of Namibia to the rainforest of Colombia, the Adventure Racing World Series turns it's attention to the PC12 Adventure Race, an AR World Series (ARWS) South American Qualifier.

Race Director Juan Aristizabal Palacio is excited to welcome 17 teams to the Urabá region of Colombia, which lies in the northwest of the country bordering on Panama. The race area is focused around the Gulf of Urabá.

When Juan speaks of PC12 he uses words like magic and magical, secret and special. These words describe the terrain, places that the teams will visit, and interesting elements that have been included in the course to make it more interesting and rewarding, most of which the teams do not yet know about.

The course includes kayaking on the Gulf of Urabá and rivers that empty into it, trekking along the coast and through rainforest, mountain biking through plantations and on tracks, and moving through protected areas where sightings of jaguars are possible. This is a tropical region and it is hot, humid, and rain is to be expected.

“Because is warm and hot, the rain is like balm,” Juan says. “There is lots of mud”.

The majority of the teams come from Colombia and neighbouring Ecuador. Foreign teams include Xpdition Costa Rica, VidaRaid and Bones from Spain and Fenix Multisport from Czech Republic. VidaRaid is the highest ARWS ranked team (4th), followed closely by Life Adventure from Ecuador (5th) and in good company with Bones from USA (15th). Team PapacaraSaludsa Vitality from Ecuador is ranked 51st but should be a competitive contender for the podium.

The race starts on Sunday, 2 June 2024. The start time and location are still secret but may be revealed at Race Briefing and the Opening Ceremony on Saturday evening. Colombia is at GMT -5.

As the AR World Series South America Qualifier, the winning team will be awarded an entry to the AR World Championship hosted by Huarasinchi Adventure Race in Ecuador in November 2024.
